Subject: RE: OL2k3 + exch55 slow mail creatation with attachment in OL

There are some OL/EX problems between OL2K & EX2K3 and OL2K3 & EX5.5 We had
the same problem when our OL2K3 users were going to a 5.5 Server, and I
never was able to find anything, once the users mailbox was moved over to
our new 2K3 server all the OL2K3 problems went away. We are now having a
problem when our OL2K users are moved from the 5.5 server to the new EX2K3
server, the client will lockup on any attachment over 1MB.
When I spoke to some of the exchange guys at Tech-ED they said they had some
knowledge of the problem but didn't know if there was fix, then when they
called over the office OL guys, their suggestion was to keep OL2K w/EX5.5
and OL2K3 w/EX2K3. Not really an option as we don't have the cash to
forklift all of our users up to Office 2K3 right now.

1.)Well I don't allow the users to use PST's

2.) I do have a PST of my term..BUT I have seen this also with machines
which do NOT have any PST's

3.) PST's pulled across the network I personally have found to be slow and
trouble some

4.) AV.. I run Scanmail 382 on my 55 box and Officescan on the client
machines

I tried duplicating this on some other systems..speciifcally SBS 2003 with
OL2003 on the term..it too appeared to be slow in both attaching the file to
the e-mail and Sending the e-mail once it was ready to go...
On these boxes Scanmail 6 and office scan on the client and one of them was
my bench test which basically was the server and me

NO cache mode on OL2003

I have found no solution yet or any other technet articals

Ditto on the setup here. I notice this when you see the Send & Receive
active in the lower right corner.

Also: Is your PST on the Network, with an additional network virus scanner
running? I have a user or two with this setup and they complain too.

Bkgrnd: Exch55 +sp4+post fixes + patches for OL2K3 usage to 55
HW: DL356 PIII 600 1.5GB ram 4disk raid 5
Users: ~125
AV: trend scanmail

I recently started using OL2K3 with my 55 box...applied patches so the store
etc wouldn't crash...
While it seems to run ok.... There is a significant time lage when
creating/attaching an attachment in OL

Any ideas?

Thanks
bill
