Your performance will suck big time if you don't dedicate a physical drive to each storage group's logs (unless you're using a SAN where the rules are somewhat more complicated or possibly easier, if that makes any sense). I would re-stripe your drive sets. My count is that you have 12 72-GB drives. I would dedicate two as a RAID-1 set for the transaction logs. Make two arrays of four plus one drives each. Then put two stores on each of these arrays. If you can scrounge two more drives (smaller ones will be okay), then you could make two storage groups and more stores.
This analysis assumes that you're going to host a large number of mailboxes; this assumption comes from your desire to have four storage groups. That said, I can't. I have 4 arrays each consisting of three 72 GB HDs. I plan to put Storage Group 1 databases on array 1, Storage Group 1 logs on array 2, Storage Group 2 databases on array 3, and Storage Group 2 logs on array 4. I also must put SQL databases and SQL logs somewhere on these arrays. Assuming that both storage groups are used equally, etc, my thought would be to put the SQL DBs on the SG1 Log array and the SQL logs on SG2 DB array. Can anyone give some feedback as to which is more disk intensive, Exch DBs or Exch logs? Can anyone give some feedback as to where best to put the SQL DBs and logs in this scenario? Thanks in advance. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=&lang =english To unsubscribe send a blank email to %%email.unsub%% Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
