By shared calendars and contacts do you mean folders with those items
that everyone can see?  If so public folders are your best bet, you
can create Calendar and Contact public folders and assign permissions
as appropriate.

As for your Macs, it may be related to how the Active Directory Domain
Controller is configured to use encrypted network connections, I ran
into a problem where a powerbook running 10.3.4 could make SMB
connections to a windows 2000 file server, but when the domain and
that server were upgraded to windows 2003 it could no longer connect,
