Hello April,

Do you have some form of email security gateway in place?

If not, I'd go to your boss or finance department and demand around $2K in
order to install a filter/gateway like Sophos Puremessage or GFI
MailSecurity (the ones I use). Actually, there are many server based
programs out there (some good ones are free) that will nearly eliminate this
sort of problem. Your life will become a lot easier for only an investment
of a few hours of setup time.

Bottom line; do not trust your clients to obey policy (you do have one?),
block extensions such as .com .exe .wmv (stupid MS video format may contain
a viral payload via a linked website), et cetera and run a virus scan on
every other attachment.

I haven't had a virus issue in my company in two years now and I attribute
much of this success to my deployment of Sophos as my corporate antivirus
standard and the five other virus scanners I have on my gateway.

Best regards,
Shawn

Subject: RE: A new e-mail virus?

Someone here opened the attachment before I could get word out and was
infected. I ran the stinger tool on my servers in addition to her
machine and found that both of my email servers have mydoom.o in the
imc\in\archive folder but they could not be repaired or deleted.

How would I remove them from the archive file?

April
