The problem that makes the event sink needed more complicated than the
sample is that you have to be able to discern internal and external
messages and you have to be able to modify plain text (easy), HTML
(mostly easy), multipart MIME (a little tricky), and RTF (nasty)
messages; all without screwing them up and invalidating signatures and
the content.

There was also a problem with the sample where it exposed a bug that
caused the store to crash if I remember correctly.

Subject: Disclaimers - Are event sinks safe?

My administration is asking me to look into the technical ability to add
disclaimers to all outgoing SMTP mail. They were not interested in my
opinions or research into the common-sense and legal questions
surrounding these damn things.

In any case, the FAQ mentions the possibility of using an event sink
with sample code from Q317327. However, the FAQ also mentions this is
not 100% safe or reliable. Is this still the case? We're running a
single Exchange 2003 server, which sits behind a Linux SMTP gateway.
All outgoing mail is forwarded to the Linux box. I thought about adding
the disclaimers at the gateway, but most of the techniques will mess up
signed messages and will have trouble with multi-part MIME messages.

I'm more than happy to quote a high-priced product to do this on the
Exchange server, with the hopes that it will push the idea out of their
minds. Plus, most of the cheap products seem to be nothing more than an
event sink with an interface. However, if I can do with a bit of VB
code, I'm obligated to mention that, also.

Thanks,
Steven
