Thank's all but that were the first steps (speed check, logging, requeue
delay) I took.  Still Perfmon to look at, and the other side of the link.

And check that both servers are connected to their respective switches at
the right speed. Ie
Switch1 port set at 100 full duplex and DMZ server nic set at 100 full
duplex   
Switch2 port set at 100 full duplex and exchange server nic set at 100 full
duplex 

Also seeing as your exchaneg server sopped wanting to receive emails from
the DMZ server,those emails waiting on the dmz server may be deferred for a
number of hours, before retry, based on the DMZ server settings

Turn up logging on the IMC and check the application log.  Also, check the
message details in the queue for connection problems...

Last Friday, the IMC from my bridgehead 5.5 Exch server stop
accepting/sending e-mail.  A restart of the server (just a stop/start of the
service would have been enough but it's been a long time since last reboot)
bring the IMC back to life and about 4000 inside queue e-mail were sent to
my DMZ smtp relay server very rapidly.

It also start receiving messages from the DMZ but at a much slower rate.  In
fact, new e-mail seem to go through but inbound queue e-mail were delivered
very slowly, some time 4 at a time, sometime 50 at a time.   It took nearly
2 hours to received the 4000 queue e-mail from the DMZ.

I know it could be a problem with the DMZ relay server and I am looking into
it with their support but were could I look in Exchange to see if the
problem could be there?  There was nothing in the event logs and I have
searched the Knowledge base but nothing so far.

Any idea?
