If you look in regedit under HKLM
System\CurrentControSet\Services\MSExchangeMTA\Parameters\MTA Database Path

Is it set to the correct path of the mtadata *.dat files?

Subject: RE: MTACHECK

I have tried renaming the folder to mtacheck.out1 as you have said and it
gives the following error -

C:\EXCHSRVR\BIN>mtacheck /v /f
c:\exchsrvr\mtadata\mtacheck.out\mtacheck.log
Unable to open specified log file
c:\exchsrvr\mtadata\mtacheck.out\mtacheck.log

Checked all the permissions and it still gives the same error -

C:\>cd exchsrvr\bin

C:\EXCHSRVR\BIN>mtacheck /v /f
c:\exchsrvr\mtadata\mtacheck.out\mtacheck.log
Integrity checker was unable to create MTACHECK.OUT directory.

It seems to default to the c:\exchsrvr\mtadata\mtacheck.out directory no
matter how you run MTACHECK. It seems to create a blank logfile
(mtacheck.log or whatever I call it) in the MTACHECK.OUT folder each time it
gives the error even though I delete the logfile each time.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

-Mark

Sounds like a permissions issue. Can you rename the mtacheck.out directory
and re-run? Unless you have the Exchsrvr\bin dir in your path, it wont find
the executable.

I have tried running it with the following syntax and it still gives the
same error.

Exchsrvr\bin

Mtacheck /v /f c:\exchsrvr\mtadata\mtacheck.old\mtacheck.log

If I try to run mtacheck form the mtadata folder it does not recognise the
program. All the documentation I have read says to run it from the
exchsrvr\bin folder.

Maybe I am being dull but it still seemd to give the same error.

TIA

Try running the command from the MTADATA directory itself.

Subject: MTACHECK

All,

I am having problems running MTACHECK to try and get my MTA back up and
running after an online restore. I am using the following syntax from the
exchsrvr\bin folder -

mtacheck /v /f mtacheck.log and I get the following error message -

Integrety checker was unable to create MTACHECK.OUT directory. This
directory does exist in the MTADATA directory and I have tried deleting the
existing logs in there.

Windows 2K SP4 w/hotfix roll-up Exchange 2k SP3 w/hotfix rollup.

Am I missing something obvious in the syntax or is there another problem.

TIA

Mark Condron
