I am in the process of decommissioning an exchange server. I moved all
mailboxes to a new server
I had 2, replacing one with a new one, so I still have two

server1 - no change
server2 - being replaced by server3
server3 - replacing server2

last weekend I moved the last of the users off.
Now this week I am getting users complaining of the following NDR
messages

      Use11 on 9/27/2004 5:36 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's
email server. Please contact your system administrator.
            <Server1.domain.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 Requested action not
taken: NUL characters are not allowed.>

This is the server (server1) that was not touched. I was not moving
accounts so or from this box. In fact all the NDR reports are coming
from the server1 server, not from the other(s).

Now the moves and the NDRs may be coincident but I am not sure.

Is there a setting in the SMTP virtual server to allow/disallow NUL
characters?

Any ideas?
