actually, there is a 3rd party product that has reports which differentiate 
between internal and Internet mails (among other things).  For individual 
users, as a whole, per server etc. etc.

No, the message has no concept of internal/external. (Don't forget about
the Bcc addresses as well which can be tricky to get at if its not your
mailbox.).
