I don't think there's a need for scripting, rather a link to a valid
iCal (ics) file ought to be sufficient.
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2445.txt Microsoft puts those types of links
up for their webcasts and such. You can also use a vcs file which is
similar (here's a links to a file example
