Not only can you do that, but if you're in a domain with both W2k & W2k3 DCs, and your only W2k3 DC dies ... everything still works fine. At least it has here for a week, after a tech broke the motherboard on our W2k3 DC trying to replace the CMOS battery.
Far less painful transition than the 5.5 -> 2K migration. I might even recommend it (and I ain't fond of change).
