As I understand it, DumpsterAlwaysOn simply allows Outlook to see dumpster
items from folders other than Deleted Items. I would be very surprised if
that hand anything to do with your problem. What were you using to move the
mailboxes?

The incorrect size reporting issue is well-known. Moving them does correct
the issue, but it's no guarantee that they'll not get off again.

Thanks for the replies and I have further info.

Yes Ed the dumpster is recovered. What I think has happened is that some
mailboxes where moved using a client PC that had the dumpsterAlwaysOn
enabled. Maybe this could be used in some situations but can't really think
of one but handy to know anyway.

Lesson learnt to do mailbox moves (and other tasks) from the exchange server
which doesn't have the dumpsteralwayson etc. We also found that mailboxes do
slightly increase in size (about 5%) when moving mailboxes but am wondering
why.

I'm still bugged as to why some of our mailboxes are reporting incorrect
storage but moving them seems to resolve the issue. We'll be doing our
migration to Exchange Server 2003 in the near future so all mailboxes will
be moved then which should resolve all mailbox size mis-matches but am
puzzled as to why this has happened.

Thanks again for your replies,
Cheers,
Phil

You're saying that the contents of the dumpster are recovered? That is
not the expected behavior.

Subject: Move mailbox recovers deleted items

Hi All,

We've been having issues with Exchange Server 2000 SP3 reporting
incorrect storage on mailboxes. So, we moved a couple of mailboxes
(between Mailbox Stores in the same storage group) that are having this
issue but when we move mailboxes the users "recovered Deleted items" are
recovered. Is this by design?, if so should we be purging "recovered
deleted items" before moving mailboxes?

Appreciate any advice on this issue.

Cheers, thanks in advanced,
Phil
