1224 is over 1024, right?  Was 1224 the port that MAPI just happened to be
using at the time?  There's a KB article that tells you how to lock down
MAPI to use a single port for all sessions rather than dynamically
allocating them.  Perhaps another admin did this lockdown.  In any case, the
advice to use a VPN is something you should apply.

I have a user on the otherside of a firewall and when communicating with the
Exchnage server I had to open port TCP135 and TCP1224. I understand 135 but
why 1224?
Exchange 2000 OLK 2003.  I read up on this and al documents relate to RCP
communication.
But I didn't make any changes to have Exchange use a static port.  Is this
the default port? I thought it was a range over 1024.
