Has this ever happened to anyone before?
We've been running a mixed mode environment with Exchange 5.5 & Exchange 2003
for the past several months with minimal issues.
For unknown reasons, something in our environment recently activated which
caused the global altering of all "Non-Standard"
primary SMTP addresses. This global change forced about %25 of our mailbox
enabled users to take on the default SMTP address
policy of "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" as their primary address.
Normally this is not a problem, as this is our standard policy.
Unfortunately, this also changed all "Non-Standard" user mailboxes with
"Middle Initials", Custom SMTP Address Names,
Special Service Account Mailboxes & Mailbox Accounts Names with similar
spelling. The result of this change adversely
affected certain Internet Email functionality as well as Blackberry Wireless
services.
We have not identified any changes in our environment that would account for
this Global alteration.
As a result, we've had to remove the checkmark from the "Automatically Update
E-mail Addresses Based On Recipient Policy"
option under all custom "Mailbox Enabled" user accounts in Active Directory in
order to retain their proper primary SMTP address.
(Note: This checkmark option is located under the "Email Addresses" tab at the
bottom of an individual user's properties in Active Directory.)
We now have a condition by where if this checkmark is not removed, all custom
SMTP names will revert back
to the "Standard SMTP Address" policy of "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" within 15 mins.
Please let me know if anyone has ever seen this before in their environment
and can it be stopped?
