Hello,

We actually did this in production 2000/2001 . Many, many hours of
labbing first. Went native in the domain first so PF permissions
wouldn't get messed up, It was a simple setup with Single Server /
Single Domain. Etc....

Wish we hadn't. Ended up with some strange problems with Lists and some
other things.

The time spent sorting things out greatly exceeded the amount of extra
time doing a "move-user" would've taken. Man, that was a pretty summer
too, and I spent it inside. What a waste.

I did inplace upgrades from Exchange "3.0" on up without issue. 5.5
->2K burned me.

FWIW: We're at E2K3 with a FE / BE setup the last 6 mo. and happy with
it.

I liked 5.5 too, lots of spreadsheets and tools for modifying
everything, you've got control of your directory instead of freaking AD
and every Yahoo admin that can screw it up ... if you can stay at 5.5
that would be good too. :-)

Good Luck,
Brent

Subject: dangers of exchange 5.5 to 2000 inplace upgrade

Exchange 5.5 sp4 running on nt 4 sp6a. Dual 1.2 ghz processor, 640 megs
of ram (upgraded to 4 gig possibly)

40 gig information store, isinteg and eseutil not run on it.

What are the dangers we could possibly face in an in place exchange 5 5
to 2000 to 2003 upgrade?
