I'd do the schema change. No problems reported with it to date. One thing,
though - I'd leave out the comma between last and first names, as it makes
things look wonky in some views, due to the escape character showing up.

Subject: 5.5 - 2003 GAL name change

Those who have migrated 5.5 - 2003,

How did people deal with the Exchange 5.5 Display name in the GAL being last
name first but Exchange 2003/AD wanting to do first name first?

It seems the two options are :

Change schema to make EX2k3/AD create new users with last name first,

Or

Change all the imported users from 5.5 change their display name to first
name first. Using Recipient update or ADC modification before importing (I
am in the lab environment at the moment).

>From my point of view it is easier for the end user if we change the schema
but the flip side is a future MS update or third party product may need the
display name to be first name first.

Searching through experts exchange, Microsoft, swinc forums and reading Tony
Redmond's, 24/7, exchange other books I find this issue under discussed. I
consider this the authority for Exchange so I look forward to hearing your
experiences and opinions.
