I'd agree with the gateway sentiments, not sure what Symantec offers, but I use a linux/postfix/spamassassin box here and it's bloody scary what you can do with it.
I use sbl-xbl on all inbound mail, zero problems so far, it's about as safe as it gets with regards to false positives, but of course YMMV. No idea about the ahbl one I'm afraid, not heard of it before now.
