I have "fixed" two machines this morning by just doing a second reboot (they
had already rebooted when asked after the MS04-040 install).

Out of curiosity, what version of Windows is running on the clients that now
aren't seeing new messages?

I have been diagnosing this problem more and looked at one user who was not
getting notifications. After uninstalling MS04-040 (which had been
installed last night by the automatic updater via SUS), he got immediate
notifications back. I then manually installed MS04-040 from a downloaded
patch and after rebooting (required) he still gets immediate notifications.
I will try this on some more users who are having this problem tomorrow.

Subject: Outlook problems from new IE patch today?

We are using Exchange 5.5 with most clients running Outlook 2000.
Starting
today, many users are complaining that their inboxes are not automatically
updating when new mail arrives (like the UDP packets are being blocked
somehow). The complaints started today, and most users had the new MS04-040
patch applied last night by the automatic updater.

Has anyone seen this problem and/or have a fix?

Tom
