Recently we upgraded most of our servers to 2003 SP1. We now have a mix of W2K/E2K, W2K/E2K3 and W2K3/E2K3. All the W2K is SP4, and E2K is SP3. Most of our DCs/GCs are W2K3, but one is still W2K. None of our Exchange servers are DCs though.
We have a number of large security groups which are also used for email (2000-3000 members), and when people mail them, they mostly get an NDR saying "The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and try again. <exchange01.unv.wlv.ac.uk #5.1.0>". However, other times you don't get this error and the delivery completes normally. In fact I've had a failure within 10 minutes of a successful delivery. Being group addresses, they all really do exist. I've seen one other reference to a similar problem on forums.msexchange, but no fix or explanation. My first idea was that it might be to do with the server used to expand the group, so I've tried fixing this different specific servers, but it seems to have no effect. I've seen a theory that it may be to do with duplicate proxy addresses existing in the organisation, so I've checked that, and did find a few, which I've dealt with (apart from ones in "Exchange System Objects" which are old versions of current public folders). Again, no difference. We wonder if this is to do with still running at Windows 2000 functional level, but it will take us a while to get rid of the last W2K DC. There's also the possibility that this is to do with us running in Exchange mixed mode; not that we have any 5.5 servers, but we forgot to change it when we set up the organisation and have never wanted the reboots. I've tried the Knowledgebase, but without success, which surprised me a bit and makes me think this is something I've screwed up. Can't think what though. Any suggestions much appreciated. ---------------------------------------- Max Caines IT Services, University of Wolverhampton Wolverhampton, West Midlands WV1 1SB Tel: 01902 322245 Fax: 01902 322699 _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
