OK I have builded a DR server with the same drive mapping and install the
backup software (ArcserveIT) with the Exchange options. I have a old tape
that was backup on the production server and I want to restore the
information store to the DR server. When I restore and uncheck the original
location then browse the DR server there is no Information Store on the
list. Is there a way to restore the information store to a different server?

Thank You
Tony

Tony one gotcha with doing a recovery server on a 2k box is if you original
server's are NT40 you will have to rebuild the Info store index's on the
recovery server before you can successfully start the info store on the
recovery server after the restore. Kind of a pain...

I've put Outlook on my recovery server and after I run the DS/IS consistency
adjuster I associated the account that I logged on to the recovery server
to that mailbox and then configure a new profile in outlook for that mailbox
and change the profile not to authenticate automatically. I then just add a
pst file to outlook and then copy the email to it then disconnect the pst
from outlook. Then copy pst file to local users machine.

Can I create the server as a member server of the production domain?

Close. Create the server with a different name, same drive letter mappings
for the DBs, logs, and exes, but create a new exchange org and site. The
important thing is to make the new org and site EXACTLY the same as the old
one, but don't join the old one, create a duplicate new one. You can then
restore your backup, run the DS/IS consistency adjuster, and have your
mailboxes available to exmerge data out of. I've set this up in multiple
environments and it has worked wonderfully. I was consistently able to
recover mailboxes in a few hours with no production downtime.
Make sure SP levels for exchange are identical.
This article covers most of it...

You should probably build the new server on W2K instead of NT 4, but I
haven't tested that recently to see if it works as flawlessly as an
identical OS. I <think> it did, but test it. Much easier to build the W2K
box...
