So, after you use ESM 5.5 to delete the E5.5 server, you just deinstall
the software with the E5.5 server disconnected from the network? Sounds
plausible to me, especially since we don't use public folders at all.
However, it seems Exchange itself uses public folders.

Subject: Removing last 5.5 server from site

Hi, all,

I'm following http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/822450 to get
rid of my last Exchange 5.5 server in a site with one Exchange 2003
server. It's also the first Exchange 5.5 server in the site. I've gotten
to the point where it says stop all the services on the 5.5 computer,
use Exchange System Manager to connect to the E2K3 computer and delete
the E5.5 computer from the site, then in fine print way at the bottom it
says:

"To verify that there are no more system or public folders in use on
Exchange Server 5.5, use the Exchange Administrator program to connect
to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer. Under the public information store,
expand Folder Replication Status. The system and public folders
disappear after IS Maintenance runs (it runs on a nightly basis) and
discovers that all the content has replicated, and that there are no
other replicas to backfill to. For additional information, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge
Base:
152959 How to remove the first Exchange server in a site"

So, the article doesn't say so, but it seems that after I delete the
E5.5 computer from the site, I need to startup the services on the E5.5
computer, and let it run overnight? And, after all that, if everything
is OK, I can then uninstall Exchange 5.5 from it?

Maybe this is so obvious Microsoft just didn't bother to include it, but
I've been bitten before, so I want to be sure!

Thanks in advance, knowledgeable colleatues.
