Cant argue that [1]. We use a Symantec gateway and that's about as close as I let it come to my stuff. Not because I think they are bad, but just because I don't think they are as good as some other solutions. They kind of are in the middle for me. On the low end they are not CA or Groupshield, but on the top end, they are not Trend or Sybari either. They are just kind of average to me.

At that point the speed of updates from a particular AV vendor for a specific virus outbreak is of less concern. Norton is what I'd consider a tier 1 AV solution for Exchange and there are only a couple of other vendors/products I'd put in that category.
