I'm not sure what the problem was, but I thought I'd mention a problem we
had and the fix we ended up doing, so that 1) if someone else has this
problem they can fix it or 2) someone who's had this problem and found a
better way to fix it can tell me how. :-)

Problem -- One of our exchange servers blew up a few weeks ago when a virus
infected one of the log files and Symantec ate it. We managed to fix it and
get it up and running, but there have been lingering effects, such as some
mail messages disappeared, and some were there, but could not be opened.
Typically, we managed to fix most of these either by moving the mailboxes
between servers or something my boss did...not sure what. In any event,
those problems have gone away. However, we had one lingering problem -- two
of the four Blackberry users were not getting mail to their blackberrys (my
boss included.)

What we ended up doing was moving all mail messages, personal contacts, etc
to a PST and blowing away the mail account (exchange 5.5 in an NT 4 domain)
and recreating it. Once we did that, the Blackberry server was able to log
into the account once again and mail started flowing.

My question is, does anyone know what kind of problem would have caused
this, and is there a better fix than backing up the mail, contacts,
calendar, etc to a PST and deleting/recreating the mail account?
        Thanks
        John
