Run NSLOOKUP on your Exchange server and see where the MX record for that
domain points. Follow that trail.

Subject: Contact causing mail loop.

Hello,
I recently had to change the primary SMTP address for 400+ contacts do to a
company merger. I used admodify to make the change and it worked well but
then I tried to change the target address to the new address and when I do I
get a loop error when I send . There are no other users or contacts with the
same address. The new domain is hosted by another company but looking at the
header of the NDR it doesn't reach their server.

I have two Exchange servers (in the middle of swinging users to new
hardware) and a front end server all running Exchange 2003.

I've tried deleting the contacts and recreating them but I still get the
same error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's the specific errors:

>From the NDR:
A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce
between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your
administrator.

>From the Servers app log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeTransport
Event Category: Categorizer
Event ID: 9026
Date: 3/15/2005
Time: 11:00:23 AM
User: N/A
Computer: emailserver
Description:
A forward loop has been detected. Mail could not be delivered to contact
because the target address SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] of the contact points to
a local domain domainname.com. This is causing 5.4.6 NDRs for the contact.
