I think your concerns are quite valid. Years ago at a former employer, a
department of the company was developing an application that required
Service Account Admin rights, and I raised enough red flags that IT
management changed things.

Subject: ChangePoint Software, anyone?

Colleagues,

Sorry to bother you, but this is Exchange-related. Does anybody use
ChangePoint on their Exchange server? Management has bought the package,
they've been testing it on my Exchange 2003 test server, and they want to go
into production with training starting on Monday. The ChangePoint account
needs full privs on the Mailbox and Public Folder stores. We have finished
moving the IT department to the production Exchange 2003 server, and are
just beginning our conversion of everybody that's outside the IT department
to the same production Exchange 2003 server.

To keep everything simple, since we're all in the same building, I was just
putting everybody in the same store. However, now, with ChangePoint software
needing full privs on the store, in order to protect everybody else that's
not IT in case ChangePoint decides to go berserk, I'm thinking I should
create a second storage group on that server and move all the non-IT people
(who are actually our clients) off the IT store.

Am I being too cautious? Or should I just keep everybody in the same store,
according to my original KISS plan?
