Yes, I noticed after not too long that mail was building back up in the queues -- possibly due to resolution taking too long, based on what I read. I pointed the VS back to internal DNS.

I have seen this on Exch 2000 that is using a 2000 server for DNS. It 'should' send to the A record if there is no MX record, but it looks like 2000 DNS and Exch 2000 working together never make that happen.
