I would definitely recommend against that.

We're looking at similar systems at the moment. What do you all think about the storage of Exchange messages in a SQL Server, as opposed to some other format?

Thanks,
Erick

know if the others do) http://www.kvsinc.com

Exchange 2003.

We have recently been approached by a couple of vendors promoting e-mail
archival systems. We are viewing this as a means to potentially retain
mail for a designated amount of time (years) that may be legally
mandated for our institution. Also, it could be another means to give
users more storage capabilities without impacting the current Exchange
servers by increasing quotas. Management likes the possibly of offering
this as a fee based service to pay for the equipment/license/software
and places us in line with legal. The Archival system would allow users
to archival their mail to tape/disk which is centrally backed up and
maintained and to reduce storage requirements on the Exchange servers.
We have tons of PST currently circulating and they are stored on
desktops, servers you name it and to which we have not control over, so
archiving may be a better solution in the long run without allocating
large quotas which we cannot accommodate at this juncture.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience/opinions of Storage Tech's
Email Archive Management system using IXOS-ECONserver or EMC's Lagato's
EmailXtender. From the presentation both products basically function
the same and don't require installation 3rd party components to be
installed on the Exchange servers. We are not concerned with the actual
storage media at this juncture. We have a large tape library available
and SAN which are available for these solutions (not my area).
