The reason I couldn't give you a straight answer was that you were talking
about "moving the structure" which implies you're bringing up a new public
folder hierarchy, like you can do in Exchange 200x, even if the alternate
hierarchy is useless. What you meant was that you wanted to move the
content, and others properly translated (thanks!) what I was trying to tell
you.

Subject: RE: Public Folders - moving

okay okay ... I have been caught in a little white lie ...

I have lots of servers ... I actually have 3 Back end servers ... I was just
trying to get a simple idea of what to do ... I never could lie well anyway
...

I really have already moved all the mailboxes to a new storage group and new
stores and do not want to re-move them to another server ...

I also have other public folder stores on other servers ....

can't I just ... ??? (after reading some more white papers)

rehome any mailbox stores associated with the public folder store in the old
storage group that needs to be deleted delete the old public folder store
make a new public folder store in the new storage group rehome the mailbox
stores to the new public folder stores

thanks again ...

You have only one server? It'd be a whole lot easier to bring up another
server and replicate everything over to it, then replicate it back after
you've deleted the public store and created another one.

Subject: Public Folders - moving

I just want to make sure I have the basic outline of this correctly ...

Current Environment = Exchange 2003/sp1 ; 2 storage groups ; 1 public folder
tree; 1 public folder store

My current public folder store is currently in Storage group 1 ...

Storage Group 1 is slated to be removed as soon as all the mailboxes have
been moved to storage group 2 and public folders have been created to take
over the old ones

As I see it (from kb articles) I need to ...

Create a new public folder tree
create a new public folder store in storage group 2 that is associated with
the new public folder tree change the default public store for my mail
stores to the new store replicate my public folders to the new store create
replicas for the relevant system folders (see ed Crowley move mailboxes ...)
delete the old public folder store delete the old public folder tree

right? wrong? get a new job? any relevant links??

thanks for any help ....

Mike
