Thanks Ed! I'll be completing the final steps this weekend and taking
the Exchange 2000 server offline.

On the first, I don't think you need to move the folder.

On the second, you should change the connector, yes. The SMTP Connector
is an Exchange 200x object. You shouldn't need a new MX record, just a
change to the new one. Or you can simply change your NAT mapping to
point the A record's address to the new server.

Subject: Exchange 2000 to 2003 Migration questions

I'm migrating an Exchange 2000(SP3 w/post SP3 patches) organization,
single server, to Exchange 2003(SP1) using the move server method. I've
purchased new hardware for Exchange 2003 and plan on decomissioning the
Exchange 2000 box. I have two separate questions.

First, I've installed the new Exchange 2003 box into the organization
and am following the steps in article 307917. I see no reference to
moving "schema-root" folder found in ESM under: %First Administrative
Group -> Public Folders(view system folders). On the Replication tab
under the schema-root folder's properties it says it's sitting on the
Exchange 2000 box. Do I need to move this to Exchange 2003 as I did
with the other public folders and Exchange services listed in 307917?
Or will this update automatically when I remove the Exchange 2000 box
from the organization?

Second, in ESM under Administrative Groups -> First Administrative Group
-> Connectors, there's an SMTP connector which lists the Exchange 2000
box as the local bridgehead. Do I switch this to the Exchange 2003 box
when I'm ready? Or is this object a legacy of Exchange 5.5 that somehow
survived until now? I've tested SMTP to the Exchange 2003 box via
telnet and it's working perfectly as is so I was a little confused when
I saw this connector. Obviously if I keep this and switch to the
Exchange 2003 box I will have first asked my ISP create a new MX record
to the Exchange 2003 box. Please note, we're not using a smart host nor
FE/BE servers, just a single Exchange box.

Thanks!
