We are thinking of implementing S /MIME for a few of our users. We are
running Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2002/2003 on the client. I'm not
sure I have a complete grasp on encryption, digital signatures and
digital certificates. Any schooling that could be provided would be
greatly appreciated. We want to use encryption for 10 users in our
company to be able to send classified email to 10 users outside the
company (different ISP's such as AOL, Road Runner etc). From what I've
been reading, you can setup your own digital signatures in Active
Directory.
1. I'm assuming local signatures in Active Directory would only be good
for
internal communication, nothing leaving the company?
2. Would I need to get Digital Certificates from somewhere like
VeriSign to allow
communication between different companies?
3. If Verisign is the way to go, would the users themselves (from AOL
for example),
be able to set things up from their end, or would further AOL
support be needed?
4. Anybody have a general idea of how much digital certificates run
individually
from Verisign?
5. Is S /MIME what I should be considering, or something else?
Thanks.
Robert
