Mike,

We are using Exchange 2000 (ver 6.0) SP3 (Build 6249.4)

The string used was as follows:

eseutil /d /p "c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb" /t
c:\exchange\tempdfg.edb

Seemed to complete without error and we were able to copy over to the
..\exchsrv\mdbdata folder and exchange started normally.

The size of the files after the defrag were as follows:
Priv1.edb = 11.2 GB
Priv1.stm =  1.66 GB

Like I said, if you look at the mailbox resources we have just under 7
GB of mail in the Private Database.

Appreciate the help

Dave

Which eseutil command did you run? (The exact string preferably.)

What version of Exchange including the service pack?

What are the exact physical sizes of the files?

Subject: Exchange Database Size Problem

I have been brought in to help with an E2K server that has been
seriously neglected. The short of it is that large sums of mail had
been kept in the individual mailboxes to the point of absurdity and the
private DB reached the 16GB limit and the server stopped
functioning.....so we had to have them delete a large sum of data.

The mailboxes then showed about 6-7GB remaining however the actual size
of the .edb was still about 15GB and .stm was another 5GB. I ran the
eseutil against it which helped but I still have an .edb file that is
over 11GB.

Anyone know what is causing the 40% increase in the database size over
what is acutally shown and what's the best way to clean that up. I
obviously am going to have to educate them on a process to prevent this
kind of build up.....however I need to clean up the mess and get
everthing back to normal first.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
