As for the protocol being used you should check the Outlook Settings and
Network control panels (under the Apple menu). Verify that Appletalk is
not used for this as it is a VERY chatty protocol. It is far better to
use TCPIP.

The hosts files typically goes in the System folder.

I should have been clearer on the client version - what I was looking
for was the Outlook client version.

A couple of questions first.

1) What protocol are your Mac clients setup for (Appletalk - I hope not,
or TCPIP)?

Where would I look for that? I am pretty sure Appletalk is turned on.

2) Do they have a local hosts file pointing to their Exchange server?

No, not sure where that would go.

3) Do they have any anti virus software running on their Macs?

Negative

4) What other third party extensions are running on their Macs?

They run acrobat, quark, photoshop, word, They also run one of those
fancy "extension managers." Forgot the name.

5) What version of the client are they using?

3.6???

Regards.

Subject: MAc Outlook problem

We have about 20 or so mac OS/9 clients in our company. We are running
on Exchange 5.5. One user is complaining that when he tries to attach a
file in his OL client, or if he tries to move a file from his outlook
client to his desktop, the operation takes twenty minutes. The message
comes up, "communicating with server" . After twenty minutes, the
operation completes successfully. The time is the same whether the file
is 100kb to 10mb.

I get this on my XP box running OL2003 but the time delay is only
several seconds or so.

Any idea what would be causing this
