Thanks. We've decided that it's probably easier just to allow those folks to use their linux box to send out emails, and add them to the "allowed senders" list to make sure their emails can come back through the Exchange server for internal users. That way we don't have to worry about making sure to secure the Exchange server. I've heard that it's pretty hard to be secure with Exchange 5.5 and as long as we're not a spamhaus now, I want to keep it that way. :-)

To best guard your box from relay, do this on the SMTP virtual server on an Exchange server that is not exposed to the Internet and have your users direct their SMTP clients there.
