What does the NDR say?

To answer your other question - there is no need for an X400 connector.
Exchange 5.5 should see the Exchange 2003 server as another 5.5 server in
the same site.

Ed,

In response to both of your questions:

   1. The connection agreements are on the ADC that is on the DC. All are
2-way agreements:
       a. Users: from DC to E2K3 server
         b. Public Folders: from DC to E2K3 server

where the Deployment tool said to change the connection agreements to
connect to the new E2k3 server I changed the Exchange server section not the
Windows server section. Do I need a connection agreement between the E2K3
server, as the windows server, and the E5.5 server?

   2. The MTA stacks service is running on both of the Exchange servers.

I'm really glad I have the time and resources to test this in the lab before
full rollout!

Also, is the MTA Stacks service running?

Subject: Exchange 5.5 to 2003 Message transfer

I have searched the archives, trolled Mircosoft support and Technet, Googled
for and can't ssem to find the answer to my question (maybe I'm not
searching on the correct words or order of words).

I am testing an Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration. I have followed the
Deployment Tools methodology and have the 2003 server joined into the 5.5
site and organization. I can connect to mailboxes on each server, move
mailboxes to the new server and am generally happy with the way things are
going. However, I can't seem to get the two servers to pass message traffic
back and forth. The 5.5 server immediately returns a NDR when sending to a
2003 mailbox and 2003 places the message into the 5.5 servers queue where it
just sits. Do I need to configure an X.400 connector between the two
servers to get message traffic flowing? Directories seem to be synchronized
since the 5.5 box knows that the target mailbox is on the 2003 server and
correctly tries to route the message over the MTA as if it was talking to
another 5.5 box. Can anyone point me to the documentation describing this
phase of the migration?

Thanks for the great help this list is to the Exchange community.
