Is her mailbox full?  You might try logging in thru the web interface
and see what's in her mailbox.  Not Exchange-specific but we sometimes
see a full mailbox or especially large/corrupted message trigger that
kind of behavior with other POP clients.

And Ed and Chris are right, of course, you should encourage her to use
MAPI instead of POP for this.
