Are these servers in separate organizations, in separate Active Directory
forests?

Subject: RE: mounting raw store from another server

Ed, thanks for your response. Well let me explain what we're trying to do
and tell me what you would recommend. We have a client who has their
exchange hosted remotely, about at 25GB store. This is how I understand it
is setup: The remote exchange server is directly connected to the Internet,
exposed. The clients at the office go over the Internet with Outlook to
connect to their exchange, yeah I know, YUCK. As far as I know, and I will
find out more details later, is the exchange server is in a different
domain. We had thought they could copy the store to a hard drive and mail
it to us, so we could essentially bring their mail in-house to a newly built
server.

As the server is in a different domain this option doesn't seem feesable.
Should we have the site exmerge the mailboxes, put it onto a HD then mail
that to us? Any advise is appreciated!

Julian

The destination server must be in the same domain and have the same server
name, which basically means that you need to clone a domain controller, and
build the server with the /disasterrecovery option.

Subject: mounting raw store from another server.

Hello List,

Dealing with Exchange and Windows 2003 Enterprise versions:

I've done a bit of Googling about how to take a raw mail store from one
server (.edb, .stm, and .log's) and move it to another--have not turned up
too much info other than dealing with restores. Which I am not doing. Of
course once it's moved to the other server, I would like to be able to mount
it and map users to mailboxes.

In my experimenting, I've copied the dismounted store to another server.
I cannot mount the store. Does the destination server have to be in the
same domain as from where the data come from? Does this condition make it
easier to mount?

Basically if someone could tell me how to mount a complete store on a
different server and if there are any differences in this process if the
destination machine is in the same or a different domain. The error I get
when I try and mount the store is c1041724.

Thanks a bunch,

Julian

PS--I'm not interested in mailbox moves or exmerging data!
