I was going through KB172813 and I looked in one of the MDBDATA folders. I
saw that there were STF files several MB in size being created, deleted,
created, etc. over and over. A quick search told me that these were related
to either IMAP or POP accounts. I checked the two IMAP users (Mac users BTW)
that had logged on the server since I had restarted it and had them close
their email programs. The problem stopped immediately.

I narrowed the problem down to a user that just received a new workstation
yesterday. I need to check out the settings on their mail program to see if
I can see what the problem is. Has anyone else seen this happen before? We
have several Mac users that use IMAP and I have never seen this issue
before. I don't set up our Mac workstations, so it may just be a simple
misconfiguration, but I am surprised at how swiftly it brought our server to
its knees.

Subject: Store.exe Unexpected High CPU Usage (Exch 5.5)

Yesterday our Exchange 5.5 server starting having high CPU usage on
store.exe. I can see nothing out of the ordinary happening on the server
that would give me any clue as to where to start looking. There is no
anti-virus running on the server. Internet email is forwarded from our Xwall
server which is now showing any unusual activity. There are no huge log
files and the message queues appear fine. There is nothing unusual in the
event logs. The full backup I ran last night went just fine. Since the high
CPU usage start, clients can connect just fine, but responsiveness is less
than normal.

I restarted the server last night and for the first few hours afterwards it
seemed to be running fine. When I got in this morning, the high CPU usage
was back. This is a single server in it's own site and does not communicate
with any other Exchange servers. It is running on NT 4.0 SP6a+ and has all
the Exchange service packs and rollups that I am aware of. The version of
the store.exe file is 5.5.2658.4. Nothing has been changed on the server in
the recent past.

Any ideas where I can start trying to figure this out?
