We had a similar problem receiving mail through an ISA firewall with its
SMTP filtering feature turned on. It was blocking certain SMTP commands,
notably XEXCH50, which shouldn't be used over the Internet, but
sometimes is. When this happened, our server would just wait for their
next command, and theirs would wait for our reply to the XEXCH50, and
eventually it would time out with the same delayed delivery error that
you're seeing.

We ended up turning off SMTP filtering.

Post some of the NDRs that "some domains" are getting.

Or turn off that "e-mail filtering" feature and see if the problem goes
away.

Subject: RE: MESSAGE DELAYED MESSAGE STATUS 4.4.7

Hey Guys,

First, thanks & kudos for all the help on the OWA thing. I finally got
it
up and running, and the employees are jumping happy around here.

I have a new problem and was wondering if anyone has ever seen this
before?
I'm running exchange 2003 with a Symantec sgs 5420 integrated security
appliance that handles all e-mail filtering before it hits my exchange
box.
For some strange reason, some domains can't send mail to me, and receive
the
NDR that says "could not deliver the message in the time limit
specified"
Action: delayed
Status: 4.4.7

Could there be a wrong config on my exchange box that is causing this?
I've been working with Symantec for over a week on this, and they
accessed
their device remotely and said I'm hooked up correctly, and to look at
my
exchange box? Remember, only some domains can't deliver mail to
me.......

I remember on my old exchange server I had a routing group connector,
but I
don't have that on the new mail server since I don't use MimeSweeper
anymore. I remember seeing a setup tab for EHLO and HELLO parameters
but
don't remember where that is in the exchange system manager. Could that
have anything to do with the 4.4.7 problem.

Funny thing I also saw out on the internet is some other people had a
cisco
pix with same issue......?

Paul
