Thanks a lot master Ed! So to sum up your points: I would create 2 SMTP connectors: one wpstewart and one *. For the wpstewart.com, I select Forward all mail through this connector and put in the IP address of their secondary mail server. For * connector, I just leave it to use DNS, correct?

It uses the existing virtual server; no new virtual server is necessary. A message will match the more specific SMTP Connector before a more general one. For example, if you have an SMTP Connector with address space wpstewart.com and another with *, a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] will go through the route specified by the first SMTP Connector. If you create an SMTP Connector for wpstewart.com, you ought to also create one with address space "*" (no quotes) as a default route. The default SMTP Connector doesn't have to have a smart host. It's up, but broken. I confirmed that with their admin. How do I create a SMTP connector, create a new SMTP virtual server? Is the primary Mx really down or just broken? You can create an SMTP connector for that address space (domain) and specify the next hop instead of using NDS. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Alborzfard, Alex Posted At: Friday, November 18, 2005 12:40 PM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Exchange 2000 and DNS options for SMTP Subject: Exchange 2000 and DNS options for SMTP I'm sure this question has been asked before on this list, but I cannot find it, so accept my apologies in advance. How do you make EX2K use a specific IP address/host name (MX record) when sending emails to a particular domain? The problem I'm having is not being able to send email to a particular domain. I have confirmed that their primary MX record is down, but my EX2K doesn't pick their second or third MX host. Btw is there a fix for this? I'm running EX2K SP3.
