Personally, for this type of restore I go with building a recovery
server. That way you simply restore the db you need, run the eseutil
/cc and extract the data using Exmerge. Works smooth as silk.

Subject: Recovery Storage Group

Good Morning everyone (it is morning here) ...

I am looking for opinions, recommendations, advice, guidance ... so
everyone feel free to fire away ...

We have started to get more requests from our attorney for e-mail's that
are on backup tapes dating back a year or two .... all my backups are
full online backups ... exchange 2003/sp1 environment ...

Unfortunately, I have moved mailboxes into new stores and new storage
groups with new names ... which slightly complicates recovery storage
groups (as I have read and seem to understand ??? ..)

What is the simplest or best method for recovering info from these
tapes? recovery storage group? building a recovery environment? what
would that environment look like ? would it be a separate forest or just
a separate server?

any experience, advice, white papers (not the rolling kind) would be
appreciated ...

thanks,

Mike Wohlgemuth
