In working with PSS, they got me a work around. At first, they asked my to exmerge the mailboxes in question and then recreate them with new directory names. I said that it wasn't really an option since I have approx 30 users and most of whom are over 2gb...etc. So he dug futher into his notes I guess and here's what worked for us.
1) Hold the <ctrl> key and view the raw properties of the 5.5 mailbox to dump to admindump.txt file. 2) Move mailbox to 2003 3) Go to ADC and select 'Run now' for that particular site 4) Replicate AD and 5.5 directory services 5) Using ADUC, remove the Exchange attributes 6) Follow step 3 & 4 again 7) Run the clean up agent in System Manager to make sure the mailbox shows as not connected 8) Follow step 3 again 9) Reconnect the mailbox in System Manager 10) Follow step 3 & 4 again 11) Add an X500 address to the 2003 mailbox, getting it from the admindump.txt file (Obj-Dist-Name) 12) Follow step 3 & 4 again 13) Send a test message from a user still on 5.5 mailbox. This one I tried is different than the last one and I got the same results. 2003 users could send no problem, 5.5 users received the error message. I checked out her legacyExchangeDN attribute and it shows what her old 5.5 directory name was. Syntax: CaseIgnoreString Edit Attribute: Value: o=Org/ou=SITE/cn=Recipients/cn=98BF2EF7 (her directory name in 5.5 world.) Any insights would be much appreciated. I will do this as soon as I can move one of these legacy mailboxes. Any thoughts on if they're different? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ed Crowley [MVP] Sent: Tuesday, November 01, 2005 5:15 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Moving Mailboxes with old directory names That is really strange. Can you check a couple of things: 1. Open Exchange 5.5 Admin in raw mode and look at the raw properties of the mailbox before you migrate it. 2. Move the mailbox. 3. Using ADSI Edit, look at the legacyExchangeDN attribute of the target user of the migrated mailbox. Are they the same? The directory name shouldn't have any impact whatsoever on this, so I'm suspicious it's some other legacy setting. Before my time, they had MSMail and upgraded to Exchange. Some older users have directory names of like 07E98FD2 instead of their user name. When I move a user with what seems like a regular directory name, email flows to those users almost instantly after being migrated from the other 5.5 users and 2003 users. When I move a user with the old legacy directory name, email bounces with unknown recipient from the 5.5 users. I've even waited over an hour in case it was a sync issue but we don't have to wait to send emails to the other ones with regular directory names. Users on 2003 can send to these legacy accounts instantly after they've been moved but 5.5 users have the emails bouncing. Any thoughts on this?
