Hi All,
Thanks for taking the time out to respond to this issue. The clients are not
running any local firewalls AND the Windows firewall service is disabled (I
dont like that thing at all).

At this stage, it seems the problem may have been caused by the file system
antivirus software.

Previously, I have installed older versions of this client (Norton Antivirus
Corporate edition) on Exchange servers without problems. I exclude the
appropriate folders on the HDD and it runs fine.

What I did not realise was that there are a number of new features in Symantec
Antivirus Corporate Edition, that even though not specifically enabled,
interfere with email from an Exchange server via SMTP.

Basically Symantec says that in addition to not scanning the folders of
Exchange, you should go to Add/Remove programs, change the Symantec Antivirus
install, and remove the module concerned with email.

After doing this, email does not get stuck outbound due to SMTP sink or
protocol errors AND the outlook clients seem to keep up-to-date as well.

Hopefully that takes care of both issues.

Thanks again,
Luke
