Hello, colleagues, and happy Saturday,

I have a user who cannot attach to the Exchange 5.5 server (which is on
Windows 2000). I've tried his setup, and at first, I was getting the
message "Ambiguous alias." In checking the Exchange server, I noticed
somebody had used his alias on two different mailboxes because the
second mailbox was one of a person who has left the company, and he was
her manager. So, I changed the offending alias back to what it was
before, and waited overnight for things to work.

Well, they don't work. Now, I get the error on the IMAP client (Outlook
Express in this case) "You do not have permission to log on." And
searching the knowledge base isn't getting me anywhere. Security Event
Log comes up with ID 681, and Error Code 3221225572, which Technet says
means "The username doesn't exist." which is obviously not the case:

nitor/logevnts.mspx

Now, I can log onto the domain on any workstation with this user's
credentials, so I know his username/password are fine. And, I can access
my test mailbox on the Exchange server via IMAP just fine. But, this
user is the director of marketing, and he's on the road, and it's
essential he gets his mail.

When he gets back, I'm going to get him on VPN. But now, he needs his
IMAP connection to work.

Any ideas, folks?
