OK, this is strange. To test this, I created the Larry.Test account in
the new forest with no special privs. On the Mailbox Rights button of
the Exchange Advanced tab I added a test account from the old forest
that had no special privs, and gave it full mailbox access, but I did
*NOT* go to the Security tab and add the old forest test account and
give "Send As" privs.

I logged into a computer in the old forest as the old forest test user,
connected Outlook to the new test account in the new forest, and was
able to send mail to my Gmail account, and it went just fine, with the
correct From: address and everything.

So, I gotta wonder if "Send As" is even necessary in this particular
situation. It's certainly necessary if you have 2 mailboxes on the same
Exchange server, and you want a secretary to be able to send email "as"
her boss, not just "on behalf of" her boss.

Oh, well. It won't hurt to have it. Only reasons not to do it would be:

1. It's an extra step, multiplied by 150 users.
2. When they cut the cord between their new forest and our old forest,
there'll be two places to clean up funny-looking SID's, instead of just
one.

Sigh. Time for more coffee, and a donut.
