Exactly, this is what we found. Quite trivial, eh?

Originally I looked straight at it but didn't pay attention to it because I
was concerned about an auto-reply Rule not working in a Public Folder. It
didn't cross my mind that something related to OOF would be also responsible
for auto-reply rules.

Thanks!

What about the properties of the DL->Exchange Advanced->Send out of
office messages to originator. It's turned off by by default I believe.

My PF is viewable in the GAL.

But I want it to be a member of the DL because I want it to reply back
when people send mail to the DL.

I have also scrapped the PF idea and created a mailbox with OOF, and
then made the mailbox a member of the DL. Same result. OOF gets
suppressed.

I got around it by making the PF viewable in the GAL and not making it a
member of a DL. :)

Subject: PF reply rule puzzle

Hello everyone.

Exchange 2003.

There is a DL whose owners want to notify everyone that the DL should no
longer be used.

I created a public folder with an autoreply rule. Tested sending to the
public folder - autoreply works fine.

Then I added this public folder as a member to the DL. Tested sending to
the DL - no autoreply.

I can see that the PF is receiving my test mail, but it is not replying.

I cranked up diagnostics logging on the Exchange 2003 server where the
PF replic resides.

I can see that the server is trying to trigger the rule, but then this
event pops up:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category: Rules
Event ID: 1155
Date: 1/25/2006
Time: 11:20:17 PM
User: N/A
Computer: USC1MSEX01
Description:
Action 0 in rule ID 1-3EA5300 was canceled. The reply rule will not be
triggered on messages with auto response suppress.

This is not the case of suppressing autoreplies to the internet.
Besides, we are not suppressing them anyway.

What could this be? And is there a way to get around it?
