Figure out what is filling up the space....

In the past I have opened rapidly created logfiles in notepad to
discover the same addresses (it's not plaintext, but some of it is
readable enough to see patterns) over and over. In a past case, a
message was sent to a public folder that was mail enabled and had
multiple replicas. Exchange didn't know what to do, so it kept
delivering the message over and over to both servers until I
mail-disabled the PF. If you don't see any pattern or very few
addresses over the span of many logfiles, it may indicate that you need
to be on the lookout for people sending obscenely large messages
(Another time, in the days before size limits were set, someone thought
it would be a good idea to mail out 250MB of photos to 50 of their
closest friends).

Your specific mileage may vary, but the technique might be helpful in
further diagnosis.

Subject: No drive space, how to recover?

A flurry of log creation filled a datastore drive space.
Moved the logs to another drive.
Datastore ate up the remaining drive space.
Moved 4 GB users to another datastore.
Drive space filled again, and quickly.
How do I get out of this vicious circle?

TIA
Orin Rehorst
