Don't use a software mirror. Invest in a RAID controller and use hardware
mirroring.

Your logs and database should always be on separate physical drives.

Subject: Speed loss with mirroring?

Is there a marked loss of speed in delivering the e-mail to internal clients
(Outlook 03) with using Server 03's software disk mirroring on an Exchange
03 server? I have been doing just that on a new server and I think I sense a
slowness. It's a good fast Xeon dual processor server with 4 gigs of RAM.
Should I de-couple the mirror? I don't know that in reality it offers me
that much security. If one HD goes nuts, they both would be nuts, right? And
if I de-couple, I suppose I could store logs on the second HD, which I think
I read is the way to help throughput.
