Subject: RE: Exchange2k3 --> ActiveSync --> SSL --> Only One Server

Your first problem is using a home grown certificate.
I never recommend that home grown certificates are used anywhere outside
of a lab or test environment. They look cheap, cause problems and
generate error messages. You should see what happens in Internet
Explorer 7.0 when you hit a site with home grown certificates. I have
more on why it is a bad idea to use home grown certificates on my blog
here: http://www.sembee.co.uk/archive/2006/03/05/5.aspx

Home grown certificates will not be trusted by the device. Therefore if
you haven't imported the certificate to the device then you need to
before attempting to synchronise.

Also ensure that you haven't got require SSL enabled on the
/Microsoft-Server-Activesync, /OMA or the /exchange virtual directories
in IIS Manager. That can break EAS.

Can you access OMA?
What about accessing OMA from Internet Explorer? If you checking from
Internet Explorer on your desktop, make sure that you turn off show
friendly http error messages so that you see the real error.
EAS uses the same backend as OMA so I find that if OMA doesn't work,
then EAS doesn't either. Get OMA to work and EAS will work as well.

Finally, are you using Forms Based Authentication? If so, then that will
break EAS. You have to make some changes to the IIS configuration.

Microsoft claim that you have to make a number of changes to the IIS
Configuration. They are documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=817379

However I have found that you don't need to make all those changes, just
some simple settings in IIS Manager and haven't seen any problems with
it yet. Documented changes I use are here:

Subject: Exchange2k3 --> ActiveSync --> SSL --> Only One Server

xchange 2k3 sp2
Palm Treo 700w
SSL cert created with a Micrsoft CA server

I am setting up ActiveSync for the first time and its not going well. I
keep getting the generic error 0x85010014 on the palm. Called Palm
support and they where no help, basically saying it was a problem with
our exchange setup. I came across one forum that suggested if you
wanted to run run ActiveSync with ssl it would only work from a front
end server it would not work in a single server setup. Is this a true
statement? Im also getting the below error when trying to access OMA.
Any thoughts?
