Once an old format PST goes over 2gb, you are somewhat stuck. You can
use the 2GB PST utility to trim off a small amount for minimum data
loss. If the PST went over 2gigs by 10 megs, trim off 15 megs, then run
scanpst and see if it opens. If not, trim it off by 20 megs (always use
a copy of the original one).

You don't need to reduce it drastically under the 2GB limit for scanpst
to repair it and make it usable.

Create an OL2003 format archive and move all the pre-OL2003 data from
the repaired PST into the new format to prevent this from happening
again.

Subject: RE: Auto-split PST files?

Restore a smaller PST from backup. If he hit the 2GB limit there will be
data loss, no way around it. Fortunately if the data was important it's
backup up somewhere.
