Currently you have some form of fault tolerance (if one exchange server packs in , you still have another with some people still able to use email/calendar) and something to build from (and using them as primary/secondary WINS servers)
This may need to be pointed out to the manager if your organisation is very dependant on exchange. You should look at doing some monitoring in performance monitor to see what the cpu and disk utilisation is like. If they are already heavily loaded then you may get performance issues in consolidation. I would see no problem in principal with file/print WINS and DHCP, but you see it is just a memory for nt4 and 5.5 for me and many others here, but I do remember in a previous job we setup the exchange server 5.5 as a BDC and there was no issues. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of John Aldrich Sent: Friday, 2 June 2006 02:23 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Combining Exchange with other apps My boss would like to combine our two (EXCH 5.5) servers and possibly add other services such as print/file serving, WINS, DHCP. Any reason to do this/not to do this? I advised that I didn't think it was a good idea. Can someone point me to an "authoritative" source such as a Microsoft KB article or something? Lately my boss seems to have grown fond of second-guessing me so I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.
